Uncle Boons is a personal favorite and stands out for its flavors, energy and environment

Having lived in New York City a few years now and sampled food from dozens of restaurants, I have very few *favorite* restaurants. With so many great restaurant options waiting to be visited, I more often err on the side of trying somewhere new when deciding where to eat.

Without a doubt one of my top picks in Manhattan – a true “go-to” restaurant when I want to have a great night out with my partner and/or our friends, is Uncle Boons, located in Nolita at 7 Spring St. between Bowery and Elizabeth St..

Uncle Boons is a Michelin Star awarded restaurant that serves Thai food and Thai themed cocktails. I’ve been 5 times in the last 3 months and each visit hasn’t let me down (I mean duh, they got a Michelin star!). Because of this, however, you can count on there being a long wait if you go during prime dinner time. Uncle Boons does allow you to make reservations, however, they have very limited time spots available, and those usually fill up quickly. You can make reservations through their website.

If you are unable to make a reservation, which is probably the case, you can show up and put your name on their list. The wait time is usually in the 1 hour range during peak dinner hours, but rest assured, my partner and I have spent that time at a nearby bar having pre-dinner drinks to pass the time. Uncle Boons will text you 10 minutes before your table is ready.

Once you’re seated, you’re in for a treat! It’s a quaint little restaurant that has a very homey feel to it. It’s like you get to leave New York for dinner. Not only is their food excellent, but they’re cocktails are damn good to. My favorite is the Baa Baa Bo Bo, a spicy tamarind margarita. The quality of the food is outstanding – the best Thai food I’ve found in the city. You order family style and share dishes.

The staff is friendly, food and drinks great, ambience is nice. Something about the atmosphere and design of the restaurant really makes it a special place.

I’m definitely going back, and if you’re thinking about trying it out, it’s certainly worth it!
