Dear American visiting the War Remnants Museum, yes there is definitely *some* anti-USA going on here, but the War Remnants Museum in Ho Chi Minh City is very much worth experiencing. As long as you don’t come in close-minded, it’s a must-see when in Saigon.
Even if you’re a flag-waving, blue blooded American, there are still plenty of neutral exhibits to enjoy and viewpoints to consider. However, if you’re sensitive to the images of blood and have a propensity for easy tears, you should probably skip this and enjoy the rest of your vacation. If you’re want to learn more about Vietnamese culture through awar that deeply divided the country and significantly impacted their course, then this well-worth it all.
This is a sobering, painful perspective of the war from the Vietnamese side. Come in with the ability to boil down the photos, posters, images, and text to simply “War is Hell” – if you have that in mind and a strong stomach, the vast majority of what you see, read, and experience is worth the price of admission.
