“Where do you get your haircut?”
This questions comes up surprisingly often in my friend circles. And all too often, the person being asked respond with the place they went to recently, but preface it by saying they’re “still looking for the right place.” I get it. Haircuts are personal. Not only that, but pricing and convenience also play huge factors in finding the right spot.
For the last two and a half years, I’ve been going to On the Mark NYC, mens barber shop, located in the East Village, and have never felt the need to go anywhere else.
Granted, I live in the East Village, so it checks off the convenience box for me. On the Mark recently moved from its old location (13th St. btw 1st Ave/Ave A), to just down the street. Where it now lives at 350 E 13th (btw 1st/2nd Ave).
If you live around the East Village, this is a great spot to check out. It is a mens barber shop, so ladies, you may not find this post useful.
Haircuts start at $24 (which is a bit pricey if all you need is a trim, but if you’ve found a stylist who knows how to give you exactly what you want, it’s worth it in my opinion). They only accept reservations online, where you can reserve a time through their new and improved website: onthemark.nyc
When I first found this place, I tried out a few of their stylists each haircut, to see which one suited me best. I think that’s key in finding the “right person to go to”. It’s not necessarily about the place, it’s about the person. How well they listen and take care of your do.
My barber of choice is Manny. He’s chill, he pays attention, and he does a great job. I’ve also had my haircut with Nick, who is equally as mindful. See all barbers here.
On the Mark also gives complimentary drinks. Haircut and a drink? Yes, please!
